1 Hour Simulator Session in a Boeing 787

You and a guest get the thrill of a lifetime! Takeoff at Boeing Field and fly wherever you choose. Boeing Experimental Test Pilot Mike Carriker (First flight Pilot in Command) in the left seat and you in the right. Hand fly or enjoy the high tech Autopilot. Enjoy normal flight or not! Shut an engine down in flight, explore the aerodynamics, go slow, go fast, buzz your house, it’s all up to you it’s you. It’s your flight plan.

This is not a full motion simulator. It is a fixed based simulator with high fidelity video and sound. It’s what Boeing Pilots use to practice for flight tests and airshows. Mike Carriker and Randy Neville flew hundreds of hours in this simulator before they flew the first flight in the 787.

I ran into my friend Sanford on Mother’s Day at our local QFC. He and his daughters were shopping for special dinner needs. Sanford told me about the upcoming Auction. I told him that since 9/11 the chances were slim, but I would check into getting some simulator time. The layers of approval was overwhelming. I was sure it was going to be shot down before getting to mid-level management. I made it through the Chief Engineer for the Flight Deck organization, the Chief Pilot for Flight Operations, and finally to the Chief Engineer for Laboratory Test. What I found amazing was how receptive they were when I talked about the need. Turns out that some of the approvers have close family and friends with special needs.
